Del Mar is a small coastal city located in San Diego County, California, United States. The area where Del Mar now stands was initially inhabited by the Kumeyaay people, who lived in the region for thousands of years. In the late 1800s, the land was purchased by Colonel Jacob Taylor, who named it “Del Mar,” meaning “of the sea” in Spanish.

In 1885, the first hotel in Del Mar was built, and the area began to attract visitors who came to enjoy the beautiful beaches and the mild climate. The area’s popularity grew over time, and in 1910, the Del Mar Race Track was opened, which became a major attraction for tourists and locals alike.

During World War II, Del Mar was used as a training center for U.S. Marines, and after the war, the city experienced a period of growth and development. In the 1950s and 1960s, several upscale residential neighborhoods were built, and the city became a popular destination for retirees and wealthy individuals.

Today, Del Mar remains a popular tourist destination, known for its beautiful beaches, luxury resorts, and world-renowned horse racing. The city has a population of just over 4,000 people, and its small size and coastal location make it a peaceful and idyllic place to live and visit.
